LG G4: Specs, Reviews and Comparison

LG G4, the latest mobile phone from LG, has got a processor that’s quick as lightning, a display that’s sharp as a razor, a 16 MP camera that - with its army of controls and raw image shooting - is a heaven-sent for budding photographers. But if you are willing to fork out Rs 45,000 or more (compare price on Junglee), should this be your first choice? Time to find out.

LG G4 Specifications and Features

Amongst the standout features of the 14.9 x 0.9 x 7.6 cm, 3G (LTE) LG G4 (that weights 154 grams) is the world’s first 5.5-inch (13.9cm) Quad HD IPS Quantum Display (2560 x 1440, 538ppi), which will bring your movies and graphics to life. Indeed, the screen sports an IPS Quantum Display (which accounts for 25% brighter colour and a 20% wider colour range) that, the company claims, is an industry first.

In terms of design, you have three varieties to pick from – one that comes with vegetable-dyed stitched leather over plastic, and two others with metallic or ceramic back plates. You also get the freedom to choose from a variety of colours. Pick up the phone and the round back sits snug in your palm, especially if it’s the leather version. Durability is another plus.

The G4’s 16MP rear camera is quite the leap from its predecessor’s 13 MP, and will bring on a smile if you are a closet shutterbug. The 8MP front camera, on the other hand, more than does an adequate job when it comes to your video chatting and selfie moments.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor (with 1.8GHz 64-bit Hexa-Core CPU) may seem like a step in the reverse direction for some, but the optimization makes up for it, with a good overall experience (as against sheer speed).

The latest OS (Android 5.1 Lollipop) underscores a richer approach apps, and comes pre-loaded with stock Google staples. Dual SIM (Dual Standby) boasting superfast 4G LTE Speed, a 3GB LPDDR3 RAM, a microSD slot for expandable memory (up to 2TB), a 3,000mAh battery, Video Calls, Music & Video player, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Hotspot complete the list.

And while that is an impressive inventory, the G4 still lacks the punch that, say, Samsung’s R&D guys have packed into the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy Note Edge by way of cutting-edge innovation.

LG G4 Reviews and Final Verdict

Predictably, everyone loves the camera (that impresses in all conditions) and the high contrast, vibrant display. But that’s not all. Users have also raved about the good looks, the heavy duty battery, the breezy UX, and admirable multi-tasking ability, the expandable storage and the fact that it doesn’t hang.

Naysayers, while admitting that the G4 has its unquestioned merits, say that it still falls short of some of its leading counterparts, especially when it comes to the latest technological bells & whistles. So if you like things ‘oven fresh’, and are determined to spend 45 grand, this is the phone for you. But, before you swipe your card in a hurry, do factor in alternatives available in the same range such the Sony Xperia Z3, Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. We have compared below a strong contender from Samsung in the same range.
