Happy Women's Day

Woman's World on JungleeIn the words of celebrated woman poet Maya Angelou:

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

This women’s day, celebrate every woman you are.

Dress up for yourself… not for the image, not for other people, not for fashion, not for men, that’s what Marlene Dietrich said, and we all know there’s a quiet joy in doing just that. A certain satisfaction that comes with wearing stilettos to the beach, or blue eye-liner, or leopard print, and bug-eyed sunglasses, not because they’re in style, or because they make you look good, and definitely not because they’re practical, but for that one simple, supreme reason- they make you happy. If you’re a girl who likes to read, pick up that book you’ve been dying to read… breathe in the smell of old paper (which is as enchanting, if not more so, than that of new paper), curl up in your favourite chair with a steaming cup of coffee, and read. If you’re a girl who loves the alien-ness of a foreign land, knows that there is a certain joy in navigating through spaces that make you feel just a little lost… go someplace you’ve never been before, the next big adventure could be just around the corner. Because, if you’re a girl who likes to travel, you know that the world changes at every bend in the road. If you like black over pink, wear it, if you want to pamper yourself, if you want to treat yourself, if you want to watch three movies back-to-back, if you want to catch a breather, if you want to get a moment just to yourself, go ahead, it’s your day, and in truth,  so is every other.
