In the past few years, we have seen a lot of our favourite books come alive on screen. The Harry Potter series, the Twilight Saga, The Hunger Games, and the Princess Diaries are just a few examples of the same, and we cannot say which did better – the books or the movies. Avid readers would swear by the books, while movie-lovers would prefer the screen adaptations. Without getting into any such discussion, let’s have a look at the books that have undergone the silver-screen treatment.
The Fault In Our Stars – The protagonists are two teenagers, Hazel and Augustus, who meet at a cancer support group and become friends, which takes them on a miraculous journey beyond compare. With Hazel’s oxygen tank as the other constant companion and Gus joking about his prosthetic leg, the two connect at a level no one can understand and in the process, fall in love. The Wolf Of Wall Street – Based on Jordan Belfort's memoir of the same name, the story revolves around his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life, to his fall due to involvement in crime and corruption. (Author – Jordan Belfort)
The Hobbit - The film follows the titular character Bilbo Baggins as he accompanies Thorin Oakenshield and his fellow Dwarves on a quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug. The film also features the vengeful pursuit of Azog the Defiler and Bolg while Gandalf the Grey investigates a growing evil at the ruins of Dol Guldur. (Author - J.R.R Tolkien)
7 Khoon Maaf - The film tells the story of a femme fatale, Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes, an Anglo-Indian woman whose unending quest for love leads to a series of marriages, each ending in the mysterious death of her latest husband. (Author - Ruskin Bond)
Kai Po Che - Set in Ahmedabad, the story revolves around three friends, Ishaan, Omi and Govind, who want to start their own sports shop and sports academy. The film tracks their deep friendship, and innocence tarnished by religious politics and communal hatred, which results in their fallout, and an eventual death. (Author – Chetan Bhagat)
2 States – Krish and Ananya meet at IIM - Ahmedabad and during the program they fall in love. Complications arise when they decide to get married, as they belong to two different states of India - Krish is a North Indian Punjabi boy from Delhi, and Ananya is a Tamilian Brahmin from Chennai. To convert their love story into a love marriage, the couple faces a tough battle in front of them. (Author – Chetan Bhagat)
