Spring Summer 2014 Trends

Come spring and summer, popular trends, colour-palettes, and wardrobes see a revamp. It’s time to stow away the woollens and have some fun with your wardrobe. This year’s trends range from feminine florals and shimmery tops to clean geometric cuts in monochrome; making it fairly easy to pick and choose trends we’re comfortable with. Need tips on how best to work each of these trends into your wardrobe? Read on.

Trend Alert: Florals

The floral trend is a classic and possibly the trend that’ll find the most takers, this season. We’ve seen floral dresses and tops in floral prints, but this season, the trend extends well beyond these classic wardrobe staples. So, go ahead, team a pair of floral jeggings with a plain tee, and get yourself a nice cool floral sling bag or a pair of floral-print sneakers. To really have fun with this trend, team your florals with watches and accessories in complementary colours.

Trend Alert: Shimmer

Shimmer is the season’s dose of drama, giving you the perfect excuse to bling up your wardrobe. You could take the subtle route and wear something with just a hint of shimmer, or go all out and wear a dramatic top or skirt that is entirely hued in gold, silver or bronze. While this is a trend that’s more suitable for evening wear or special occasions in its most potent avatar, it can definitely be worked into your daily wardrobe – think hints of shimmer in the fabric of your top or shoes with gold detailing.

Trend Alert: Monochrome

And for those of us who like clean lines and sharp contrasts, the monochrome trend is back. This time around, look for pieces with details such as lace panelling and interesting prints, keep the silhouette clean and minimalistic and pair your monochromes with metallic or rich-hued accessories.
