How to Wear Coloured Denims

Coloured Jeans

Few fabrics can boast the versatility of denim- the fabric that has taken on new shapes, new textures, new lengths, new cuts, and the latest- new colours. This wardrobe staple doesn’t need to be a shade of blue, black or white anymore;  in true denim-style, it’s evolved yet again and emerged colourful- be it a subtle shade of pale mustard, a dramatic red or prints galore. The coloured-denim trend has spread like wildfire, and if you want to invest in one trend, this one would be a good bet. From pastels to florals- each brand has it’s own version of coloured or printed denim so you can take your pick. Just find pair that flatters your body and team it with the right top, footwear, and accessories. Here are few cool ways to rock this trend.

Pair Bright Denims with Neutral Colours

This is probably your safest bet- pairing a pair of vibrant jeans with a black, white, cream, or chambray top, simply cannot go wrong.  Bright jeans look great with a flowing button down cream or white shirt or a feminine sweater in the same shade; a sheer black shirt could do the trick as well. This is probably the best way to ease into the trend (Diving into the printed-denim deep end is not for the faint hearted). You could also try wearing bold footwear or accessories with this look- leopard print shoes or turquoise jewellery, for instance, would make for quite a stylish ensemble.

Colour blocking with red denims

Colour Blocking

Pairing solid-coloured, bright pieces of clothing is called colour blocking; and this has been quite a hot trend for a while now. It’s a bold style, but as long as you pair your denims with a solid, bold colour, you’ll get yourself a look that’s stylish and fun and not a jarring one that clashes and has you wincing when you look in the mirror. When trying colour blocking, it’s best to wear pastel shades together and pair bold shades with other bold colours. Keep the accessories simple- like a pair of tiny gold, silver or pearl studs and a basic metallic watch.

Pair Coloured Denims with Prints

If you like dressing for drama, this is the look for you- it’s the boldest way to wear coloured denims. Polka dots, animal prints, nautical stripes, floral prints, geometric patterns, bird prints- take your pick! Again, the accessories should be simple and minimal. Keep the footwear basic as well- a nice pair of ballet flats or nude pumps should do the trick.
