Sunscreen, moisturizer, foundation, concealer, corrector, and anti-aging cream, all rolled into one, the BB cream promises to be many things. This cream claims to hide blemishes, camouflage dark spots, hydrate and moisturize your skin, even out skin tone, act as a primer or foundation for make-up, and also make your skin positively luminous. What’s more, it lasts for hours. Basically, BB cream tells women they can replace a ton of things in their dressing tables with one little tube of this product. With cosmetics companies launching their own BB creams in India, most women are dying to find out if they actually work.
So what is this cream? Known as Blemish Balm or Beauty Balm, BB cream was formulated in the 1960s by Dr.Christine Schrammek, a German dermatologist, who created this cream to treat and protect her patients’ skin after surgery. The cream worked wonders in healing skin while simultaneously camouflaging scars and marks. After staying mainly in the realm of medical products for over a decade, the cream found its way into the Korean and Japanese cosmetics industries in the 1980s. It found instant and loyal takers. Many popular brands have come out with their own versions of BB cream- Maybelline, Garnier, Olay, Estee Lauder, Clinique, and Body Shop, to name a few. Many of these have added their own improvements including skin-lightening, anti-aging, and higher degrees of SPF protection.
Sounds like a miracle product, doesn’t it? However, there are a few things to keep in mind while buying a BB cream. The first being colour- it’s very important to find the right shade to match your skin tone, or your skin could end up looking blotchy or grey. Second, if you’re looking for something specific, like anti-aging, there are specialized products that, popular opinion says, usually work better. But if you’re just looking for something that’s a concealer, corrector, moisturiser, sunscreen, and a light daily foundation that will camouflage your skin’s flaws and make it look perfect, the BB cream promises to do so.
