OnePlus Two: release date, review, features and price

OnePlus Two is the official sequel to the hugely popular flagship killer, OnePlus One. OnePlus One held its ground next to the best  phones of competitors, which is impressive considering the fact that it was much cheaper on the budget without any compromise on the design, build quality or specs.

OnePlus 2 aims to take this one step further. Instead of just matching the flagship phone, OnePlus 2 will set a new standard for other industry players to aspire for. Purported to be launched on July 27, 2015, this smartphone’s amazing user experience is going to be the envy of every phone maker in the world.

Most of the features of OnePlus Two are not confirmed officially by the company. However, several leaked images and benchmark tests reveal that the final specs will be close to what has been described in this article.

OnePlus Two to have top of the line processor performance

OnePlus 2 will come loaded with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor under its hood. With eight CPU cores and 64-bit computing, the 810 supports 4k Ultra HD video streaming, immersive HD gaming powered by Adreno 430 GPU, and amazing battery life. It is one of the coolest processors ever, dissipating heat and keeping the phone cool at all times.

Out of the eight processors, graphics-heavy games use one or two larger processors, while simple tasks like text messaging will utilize one of the smaller processors. This ability of the ROM to intuitively understand which processor will be used for which task, is a great feature that significantly improves UI performance and reduces issues related to heating.

The only confirmed feature of OnePlus Two: fastest fingerprint sensor

The fingerprint sensor on the OnePlus 2 is going to be lightning fast. In fact, the company claims that it is faster than Touch ID and can store up to five fingerprint profiles. Most of the fingerprint sensors in the market have much slower sensors, and they are being used as a selling point and not as a useful feature. However, OnePlus 2 is going to change the game when it comes to technology for unlocking the phone.

OP2 to feature reversible USB port FTW

Type C USB port is a prominent feature in OnePlus 2. It is one of the first flagship smartphones to feature this technology. The Type C open standard reduces the pain of users while plugging in their devices, thereby improving the user experience significantly and making it future proof.

Silky smooth Oxygen OS in OnePlus 2

OnePlus 2 comes with the company-made Oxygen OS, which is a fork of Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. This operating system is quite similar to the stock Android version, with a lot more customization options available.

Oxygen OS consists of three core areas: gestures, customisation and quick settings. Gestures allow you to draw a character on the screen to open up an app. For instance, drawing the letter O will open the camera app. Customisation lets you tweak almost any setting in the OnePlus 2, while the ‘Quick Settings’ feature is almost the same as that on Android Lollipop but with a few more additions.

The current version of Oxygen OS has few issues that need to be sorted out. However, looking at the pace in which the OS is being updated, rest assured that it is only a matter of time before it becomes comparable to and better than operating systems like Cyanogen OS 12.

Other notable features of OnePlus 2

Some other notable features of OnePlus 2 smartphone include the screen size of 5.5” with a 1080x1920 pixels display (~401 ppi pixel density). The screen comes covered with the next-generation Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to prevent it from breaking. OnePlus 2 is equipped with a 16 MP back camera with Autofocus and dual LED flash, and a 5 MP front camera.

To the best of our knowledge, the phone does not have an external SD card slot or a removable battery, which might be a dampener to a few users. On the bright side, however, OnePlus 2 is rumoured to contain 16/64 GB variants of internal memory, 3 GB RAM for faster performance and 3300 mAh battery for long-lasting charge.

Expected price of OnePlus 2

OnePlus 2 smartphone’s price is expected to be around the same range, as that of its predecessor, OnePlus One. OnePlus One was originally priced at INR 22,000 for the 64 GB model and INR 19,000 for the 16 GB model. If OnePlus 2 is priced in this range (rumoured to be priced at INR 25,000 exactly), then it is definitely going to be a blockbuster hit at the market. However, the final word on the price will be known during the phone’s launch.

Launch date of OnePlus Two

OnePlus 2 will be officially launched on 27th July, 2015. In a first of its kind, the company is planning a unique Virtual Reality event to launch the phone. To that purpose, it will start selling the OnePlus Cardboard, a modified and upgraded version of Google Cardboard for free (excluding the shipping cost). This will enable the users to participate in this unique launch event.

As with OnePlus One, the OnePlus Two handset is also expected to be sold via invite-only process. Do you want to buy OnePlus 2? Keep checking our blog for more news on OnePlus Two- we will also keep you updated when it gets available for sale.
