Denims have long since been deemed irreplaceable, non-expendable, and in other words, an absolutely essential part of any woman’s wardrobe. Having said that, there are still a myriad varieties of jeans out there, and different women prefer different types. We’ve taken four of most popular types of denims for women and looked at the kind of personalities, lifestyles, and events that they’re most suited for. You might fit neatly into one kind or find that you tend to move between denim types from one day to the next; but then that’s probably half the fun, right? So, read on, and find out what your denim culture is!
Skinnies are sleek, fitted, and chic. If you’re the kind of girl who likes to stay suitably glam while keeping things fresh and clean cut, this is the pair of denims you find yourself picking out of your closet most often.
Pair them with: Casual tees and ballet flats for a casual day look; or a slinky party top with heels for an evening out on town.
These are jeans you could live in. Literally. Loose and comfy, they’re the denims to go to if you’re really feeling like going for a dressed down look. Of course, dressed down doesn’t necessarily have to translate to sloppy. So, get yourself a nicely tailored pair that fits well, roll up the bottoms, throw on your favourite shirt, and you’re good to go.
Pair them with: A basic shirt (whites look divine!) and brogues or loafers.
Fun, with a capital F is what coloured jeans are all about. They keep things casual, but with a little more spunk than plain-vanilla blue jeans. Teal, Navy, Peach, and Red, are the safest colours to work with, but since you’re probably in the mood to have a little fun with your wardrobe when you pick these, don’t restrict yourself to those four shades.
Pair them with: Toned down tops, footwear and accessories. You could also try colour blocking, by wearing a plain top in a contrasting colour.
Drama-queen. Ok, we’re kidding, but these jeans are bold and will definitely add more drama to a look than most other kinds of denims would. You’d be spoilt for choice while picking though; you could try anything from denims with floral prints or Shibori to denims with animal prints. Pick one based on your comfort level with this trend.
Pair them with: These are very similar to coloured jeans – keep everything else subtle. Mixing prints can look very avant-garde when done right, but that’s a path best tread with care.
